Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need experience already?+
No prior clinical experience is required, but this is not an introduction to birth class. Most participants will already have experience attending births in some capacity, and we will focus on how to assist at births from start to finish.
Does this qualify me to attend births independently?+
NO. Midwifery training is 3-6 years and includes a much larger educational and apprenticeship component than what could ever be accomplished in a weekend training. This training builds skills within a supervised assist role with the assumption a trained midwife is present. It teaches you how to operate within the scope of an assistant's role at a home birth; however, your specific scope will be determined by the lead midwife, state regulations, and your training experience.
What should I bring?+
A notebook, pen, and a side to share at lunchtime. Come dressed in comfortable clothes akin to what you might wear to a birth.
What does the class include?+
All training and materials needed for practice scenarios. You will receive a very robust Assist Manual and course outline upon arrival and a certificate of completion at the end.
